Me and my Arrow
Tamara's Version of the Story: In the Spring of 1992, Eric and I married. Shortly afterwards, we decided to adopt a puppy. We found Arrow at the local Humane Society. She was a golden cute thing, weighing in at 6 pounds. She was just 2 months old. Around that same time, my sister gave us a video. She had been dancing at a club one night and noticed a cartoon playing on a video monitor near the dance floor. She asked the manager the name of the video and quickly passed the information along to us. We rented it and learned that the story was narrated by Ringo Starr and scored by Harry Nilsson. We have since bought "The Harry Nilsson Anthology, Personal Best," and enjoy songs from "The Point" plus other Nilsson classics such as "One," "Coconut," "Girlfriend," and "Without You." After renting "The Point," we decided to purchase it for our permanent collection. Now to the part about Arrow. In the cartoon, a round-headed boy is born to pointy-headed parents in a pointy-headed city. The boy is soon banished to the Pointless Forest because his round head is against the law. The banishment starts with a tearful farewell, but soon turns into an adventure. The boy's companion, a blue dog named Arrow, is the "World's Greatest Dog" with his own song, "Me and My Arrow." Naturally, we think our dog is the world's greatest, so we named her Arrow. The Point
The Point
Eric's Version of the Story, otherwise known as the way it really happened: "The part about Shoshana going to a club and seeing the video being played upon the screen with absolutely no sound is true (please note the addition of several pertinent details). When we got to see the video, we were all surprised with the quality of the music. We would throw parties and just play the video. Soon, people were asking to tape the sound track so they could play it in their cars. After renting the video two or three times, we went and purchased it. Looking back, I think it's amazing that the video was able to be rented and purchased from our nearby Blockbuster, considering the fact that we have very rarely seen it since either for rent or for sale. Now, the puppy part. After we got our new puppy, we were trying to come up with a name which fit her. We spent two or three days calling out random names to her to see if she looked like someone with that name. After spending a whole day bouncing back and forth between Casey and some other name we forget, I happened to be digging through the video drawer to get the Simpon's tape when I stumbled across The Point. I called Tamara and said just one word. Arrow. Of course the dog ran in and did all of her tricks. Okay, actually, I just said Arrow. Tamara bonked herself on the head and said, 'Duh,' and the dog continued merely to lick herself."
