WeezerFebruary 25, 2001
After a 30-minute break, the stage lit up again. Instead of Weezer, we were presented with a simple black drape that read, "The Get Up Kids." We were terribly disappointed that we had to endure a second opening act, particularly since none of them were mentioned in the promotion or on the ticket. While this band delivered more mature rhythms with fewer mistakes, they seemed more appropriate for a college party, shouting out "Yeah! Spring Break 2001!" quite a bit. They, too, had a lot of energy, but their keyboardist looked ridiculous with his over-the-top flailing. After a one-hour break, Weezer finally came out. People filled in around us and the temperature quickly rose to uncomfortable levels. About a half-hour into their "ho-hum" performance, we escaped to the lobby to cool off and get some fresh air. We hung around there for twenty minutes, just long enough to hear a muffled, overly fast version of "Buddy Holly" and a few other songs we knew. We left as the band played on. |
