Leah 24-28 Months

Leah turns two10/12/03 - Leah turned two on October 10th. Since we were headed to a concert that night, grandma, grandpa and great grandpa took Leah to a restaurant for her birthday. We heard she had a fabulous time! We also celebrated Leah's birthday on Sunday with a party for all her friends at our house. It wasn't anything fancy -- just coloring, clay, pizza, corn dogs, cake and dancing (sing-a-longs lead by mommy). We all had a great time! The picture on the right shows Leah in her party dress and hat, waiting for her guests to arrive. Can you see her saying "Cheese?" Somehow, we didn't take many photos, but we did get good video. As soon as mommy has time, it'll be posted online.

10/13/03- We went to the pediatrician today for Leah's two-year check-up. Leah cried and complained from the moment we got in until we got in the car; however, she's in good health. The doctor said she had a good growth spurt from 18-24 months. Her height has jumped from the 50th percentile to the 75th percentile (35 inches tall). Her weight is still in the 50th percentile, which is great. She weighs 27 pounds -- a three pound increase since last time! They didn't measure her head today, but they did examine her iron levels, which were good. Leah got two shots today, Prevnar and Part 1 of the Flu Shot. She needs a follow-up flu shot in one month.

Halloween 2003

Leah the Pooh
Happy Halloween!

10/30/03 - We attended a halloween party at our gym. Leah came as Winnie-the-Pooh. Mom was disguised as a pregnant person (17 weeks along).

Halloween Playgroup

10/31/03 - This year, we had a Halloween playgroup party at our house. Even though the kids aren't smiling in this picture, they DID have a great time. Blake (top) was dressed as a businessman. From left to right, Danielle was Raggedy Anne, Leah was Winnie-the-Pooh, Samantha was Minnie Mouse, Tyler was a cow, Stephanie was a leopard and Caitlyn was a fairy.

Leah at the Park11/08/03 - Leah's language skills are remarkable. It's hard to believe she was barely speaking six months ago. Now, she can repeat any words, identify pictures on flash cards and tell us what sounds most animals make. She can also sing the alphabet and count to twenty with only a few mumbles in between. She communicates both in words and short sentences. Despite these advances, Leah has entered the dreaded tantrum phase. If she's tired and becomes frustrated or doesn't get her way, she ocassionally throws herself on the floor, thrashes and cries. We don't give in to these outbursts and she always stops once she realizes she's being ignored. During all the other times, Leah sparkles. Her outgoing personality and bright smile captivate people. In group settings (like gym class and the park), she often says "hi" to the other mothers and children and then joins them in play. She also takes other mothers' hands and leads them towards activities of interest. Leah is quite affectionate, too. I love it when I hear her approach with a gentle, "Hi mommy!" followed by a hug around my neck. When daddy comes home from work, she drops whatever she's doing, runs to the door, does a "daddy dance" and then jumps into his arms.

Leah's New Bedroom

Leah Gets a New Bedroom!

2/7/04 - With less than two months before Leah becomes a big sister, we moved Leah out of the nursery and into her own bedroom, complete with a "big girl" bed, dresser and nightstand. She's delighted with her new room, but still getting used to the idea of falling asleep in there.
