2/4/02 - Here's another picture of Leah. Just kidding! This is actually Tamara at the same age as Leah (circa February 5, 1971). Leah was born 31 years and one day after Tamara.

2/11/02 - Today, Leah went to the pediatrician for her 4-month checkup. The doctor remarked about her excellent growth and robust look. She weighed 15 pounds (75th percentile) and measured 25.25 inches long (80th percentile). Her head was 16.25 inches around (60th percentile). Leah received three immunizations, but is still behind on one due to a vaccine shortage. The doctor said she'll make it up before the end of the year. On the topic of food, the doctor advised us that we could either breastfeed exclusively for the next two months, or introduce some solid foods. I said we were ready for solids, especially if it meant fewer day feeds and a longer night of sleep (presently, she sleeps 7-8 hours a night). Afterwards, Leah and I went to the grocery store. I was delighted to buy her baby cereal and baby fruit jars. Later in the evening, to distract her from crying (she wasn't feeling well after the shots), we offered her "Baby Bach" on TV and baby cereal. She loved it! The TV captivated her while she opened her mouth for each spoonful. She swallowed at least 80% of it, and finished the bowl. That makes two milestones reached today. This morning, she rolled from her back onto her front. |

2/26/02 - Our experience with solid foods is going well. So far, Leah has tried oatmeal and rice cereal, bananas, applesauce and peaches. She likes everything except the peaches. She's also rather fond of unmashed bananas! Mom was eating one tonight when Leah grabbed it, pulled it in, and opened her mouth wide for a taste. She gnawed on it for several minutes and got angry when we pulled it away. |
